Who is Christopher Box?
Well, that is not to hard to answer! I am a business man, hairdresser, artist, and entrepreneur. Recently, I have also added blogger and videographer to the list.
I was born just outside of LA and moved to NW Arkansas when I was 12. Two words for you: Culture Shock!
I got my education at a humble beauty school not even worth mentioning. It was a two year battle but I made it through. I was lucky enough to land a job and begin my training at an Aveda salon. This definitely set my foundation for becoming the stylist I am today.
I moved to Dallas in 2001 and this is where I feel my career really started. My obsession with hair extensions lead me to start experimenting with a process of taping in hair extensions.
I started my line, Diva in a Box Temporary Hair Extensions in late 2003 and began a journey I still continue today. Diva in a Box was originally made to be a stylist product. Unfortunately, the product was way before it’s time. My fellow hairdressers thought I was crazy! Tape in hair? Umm, no thanks!
Nordstrom called. They liked the concept and wanted me to make a version for their stores. I was hesitant at first and my inexperience in product development eventually lead me to agreeing to go forward with a DIY version of the product.
Diva in a Box was then picked up by extensions.com. This is when the product was really introduced into the extension market. Companies like Simplicity Hair, Hot Heads, and Platinum Seamless all contain elements of Diva in a Box technology.
Sometimes being first on the market is not always the most beneficial!
I made several bad business decisions, mainly choosing the wrong business partner. After a bitter battle I decided to discontinue Diva in a Box. It was a gut wrenching and tear filled ending.
Through extensions.com I had met the owner of easihair, Paul Reynolds. After working on several projects with Paul I was eventually offered a job with easihair and it’s parent company, Jon Renau in San Diego.
I would bring my tape in technology and begin what would eventually become easilengths.
Before I closed Diva in a Box I was approached by a stylist, Annie Campbell, out of Florida who had patented a tape in extension idea. She had concepts and I had a working model. It was a match made in heaven. I flew to Florida and worked a deal with her to license the patent to easihair.
I moved to San Diego in 2007. During the year and a half I was there I would travel from China to Austria with easihair.
In mid 2008 I began to miss being behind the chair. I was burned out from the travel and wanted to take all the things I had learned and apply them to my own salon.
In January 2010 I finally opened up my hair extension focus salon, The Beauty Box Salon.
Everything I had learned during this whole extension adventure was poured into The Beauty Box. I wanted create a place where clients would be able to get an extension service in a logical and well thought out way.
I relaunched our website, www.thebeautyboxsalon.com in September 2010 and began working on the hair extension geek website.
My stylists and I would begin writing blogs and giving advice on all things hair. The salons website has been a tremendous success.
In June of 2011 the beta version of www.hairextensiongeek.com went live. I wanted to create a forum where both stylists and clients would be able to come and find information about all things hair extensions.
I wanted the site to be a logically formatted and well organized. It would consist of videos, blogs, and of course a hair extension reference guide.
My passion and dedication to this industry has never been stronger. I still continue to do hair at my salon and work with easihair on what is now called easilengths. I have plans to build www.hairextensiongeek.com into a valuable blog and resource using all the things I have learned throughout my career.
