Born in Kentwood, Lousiana, Britney Spears has catapulted herself from humble beginnings into true superstardom. From the moment she could speak, the young Miss Spears was performing, either by singing in church or in local vocal competitions or by dancing or competing in gymnastics. Then, as a pre-teen, Britney was spotted by a Disney producer, moved to New York, landed an agent and ultimately was cast as a member of “The New Mickey Mouse Club”.

As a teenager, Britney auditioned for a young all-girls group, but immediately decided that she would prefer to go solo. At that point she produced an audition tape and sent it off to a number of major record labels. Jive Records bit and quickly snatched her up and signed her to a major recording deal. The rest, as they say, is history.

Her major pop culture breakthrough came in 1999 with the release of the mega hit “…Baby One More Time”. With a clever mix of naughty schoolgirl pigtails and braids and a girl next door pout on top of the catchy song, Britney’s first album ultimately sold over 13 million copies. Her next album, “Oops!...I Did It Again”, released the following year, also enjoyed huge success to the tune of 9 million units sold.

During this time and through her next two albums, Britney worked hard to shed her pseudo innocent image, first by vamping up her look with bigger hair and tighter outfits, including a now famous skin tight red leather jumpsuit. In the “Slave 4 U” video for her third album, Spears even featured a vampy, over-sexed look from head to toe, with greasy, almost wet hair and sweat-soaked, torn clothes and even lingerie as clothing.

Spears struggled with her stardom during the first decade of the 21^st century. First, she endured a public and tumultuous breakup with her long-time and uber famous boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Next, she married her back up dancer Kevin Federline, bore two of his children and then divorced him. Her star and psyche continued to spiral even further downward which can be illustrated first by a shocking two and a half day marriage and annulment in Vegas with a childhood sweetheart and next by a paparazzi filmed emotional breakdown and head shaving.

Fortunately, Britney has since recovered and reclaimed her place in the pop culture arena and is releasing new smash singles, touring and wow-ing audiences again with her singing, dancing, fashion and charisma. Whether she’s sporting deep chestnut brown tresses or the sun-kissed blonde locks that made her famous, Spears shows no sign of relinquishing her role as a fashion icon.
